Often the most important paragraph in the entire essay, the introduction grabs the reader's attention—sometimes a difficult task for academic writing. When writing an introduction, some approaches are best avoided. Avoid starting sentences with “The purpose of this essay is . . .” or “In this essay I will . . .” or any similar flat announcement of your intention or topic. Read more: Center for Writing Excellence>Tutorials and Guides>Essay Development>Guidelines for Writing Academic Essays. Level One Heading Replace the level one heading with the words for your heading. The heading must be in bold font. Headings are a necessary part of helping your audience track the sub-topics discussed in the body of the essay or report. Be sure to indent the first line of each paragraph between five and seven spaces by pressing the Tab key one time on the keyboard. In addition, remember to double space the entire paper using the double space functionality in Word. This template is already formatted for double spacing. Read more: Center for Writing Excellence>Tutorials and Guides>Software Tutorials and Guides>Formatting Tutorial for APA. In addition, keep in mind an academic essay should contain at least five paragraphs, which includes the introduction (introductory paragraph), the body (which is generally at least three paragraphs), and the conclusion (generally one paragraph). Most well-developed paragraphs contain at least three – five sentences, one of which is the topic sentence. Limit each body paragraph to one sub-topic. 3 Level Two Heading Replace the level two heading with the words for your heading. The heading must be in bold font. Level three heading. Replace the level three heading with the words for your heading. The heading must be in bold font. Most master’s level papers will be sufficient with three levels of heading. Delete the following level four and five heading placeholders if not needed. Level four heading. Replace the level four heading with the words for your heading. The heading must be italicized and in bold font. Level five heading. Replace the level five heading with the words for your heading. The heading must be italicized. Conclusion The closing paragraph is designed to bring the reader to your way of thinking if you are writing a persuasive essay, to understand relationships if you are writing a comparison/contrast essay, or simply to value the information you provide in an informational essay. The closing paragraph summarizes the key points from the supporting paragraphs without introducing any new information. 4 References This is a hanging indent. To keep the hanging indent format, triple click your mouse on this line of text and replace the information with your reference entry. You can use the Reference and Citation Examples (Center for Writing Excellence>Tutorials and Guides>Reference and Citation Examples) to help format your source information into a reference entry. The reference page always begins on the top of the next page after the conclusion. Wk 2 Individual: Statistics Project, Part 1: Imagine you have been asked to enhance workplace happiness and engagement at your company. You have conducted a survey and gathered data on the gender, age, relationship with direct supervisor, telecommute schedule, relationship with coworkers, along with the ratings for workplace happiness and workplace engagement for 50 individuals in your department. You must determine what variables affect workplace happiness and engagement. The first step is to run descriptive statistics on each variable to learn more about the data you have collected. Calculate descriptive statistics for the following variables in the provided Microsoft® Excel® dataset: • • • • • • • Gender o Male:24, Female:26 Age o Mean:32.02 Median:31 Relationship with Direct Supervisor o Mean:2.5 Median:3 Telecommute Schedule o Mean:1.18 Median:1 Relationship with Coworkers o Mean:1.92 Median:2 Workplace Happiness Rating o Mean:7.4 Median:8 Workplace Engagement Rating o Mean:7.64 Median:7 Mode:29 Mode:3 Mode:1 Mode:2 Mode:8 Mode:8 Write a 125- to 175-word summary of your interpretation of the descriptive results for each variable. Copy and paste the Microsoft® Excel® output below your summary. Per the data given it showed that the 50 individuals 24 were males and 25 were females ranging from the age of 25 to 40. The average age was estimated to be 32.02, while the median was 31, and most of the participants were age 29. When asked about relationship with supervisor they were told that 1 = negative relationship, 2 = neutral relationship, 3 = positive relationship, 4 = great relationship. The mean of this data was 2.5, the median was 3 as was the mode. The telecommute portion was 1= no ability to telecommute, 2 = able to telecommute at least 2 days per week; the mean of these results were 1.18, the median was a 1 and the mode remained a 1 as well. In the relationship with coworkers the mean was 1.92, the median was 2 and the mode was also 2; 1 = negative relationship, 2 = no relationship, 3 = positive relationship. Workplace Happiness Rating Scale 0-10, 10 = completely happy, its mean was a 7.4, median and mode an 8. Workplace Engagement Rating Scale 0-10, 10 = highly engaged, its mean was a 7.64, the median a 7 and its mode an 8. Null Hypothesis – There is no effect on employee happiness resulting from an increase in employee relationship with supervisor. Alternate Hypothesis – Having a positive relationship with a worker does not guarantee happiness in the work place. Statistical Analysis - A paired t-test would be appropriate for these variables since they are from a single population and are observed from a single population. A paired t-test is suitable as it compares means sample means from a single population unlike a t-test which compares means of two varied and detached populations. For this case, the two variables are happiness and engagement resulting from a supervisor’s relationships. t-test Analysis t-Test: Two-Sample Assuming Equal Variances Mean Variance Observations Pooled Variance Hypothesized Mean Difference df t Stat P(T
