There are various propositions about love and its meaning. According to Agathon, he
believes that love is the youngest god and that it flees old age. Agathon believes that love lives
among young people. He further asserts that in the case love was very old, the violent histories
narrated by Hesiod and Parmenides would not be existing, especially because love usually helps
in bringing peace. Agathon further describes love as that which is delicate and only settles on
gentle individuals who are attractive. In the speech by Agathon, he asserts that love has four
main virtues. The first virtue is justice. He explains that love never results in injustices as it is not
associated with violence at any instance of time. The other virtue of love is moderation. Love has
the largest share of moderation. It is crucial to acknowledge that moderation is the power over
other pleasures as no other pleasure is stronger than love. Importantly, the fact that love has
power over other pleasures make it have the greatest moderation. Additionally, Agathon believes
that love possesses the virtue of bravery. He states that love is brave owing to the fact that it has
a hold on Ares who is the god of war and, especially because Aphrodite has power over Ares.
