My favourite music is from the sixties and seventies. I am a big fan of Bob Dylan and
Led Zeppelin, two acts in rock music history who remain to be the greatest. Bob Dylan released
the song Blowing in the Wind in 1963 while the band Led Zeppelin wrote rock’s greatest song
Stairway to Heaven in 1971. I find these songs quite interesting and worthy comparing to
understand their musical elements and even understand them more. The songs by Led Zeppelin
and Bob Dylan are similar in melody, harmony, rhythm, and texture despite being from different
genres and times in history.
The two compositions have conjunct and low melody throughout the songs and they also
maintain a consistent slow-paced rhythm. The two compositions have conjunct melodies which
are slow and easy to follow mainly based on the guitar instrument. Essentially, these melodies
make up the genres of the songs as based in soft rock music. Both songs start with a guitar
melody which is maintained throughout in a slow pace accompanied by the vocalists’ words.
This slow and soft rhythm makes up a soothing feel of the songs. Moreover, the melody is
conjunct I both songs hence presenting another major similarity.
