Description

1. Explain what the Nuremberg trials are all about. Be as detailed as possible.

2. Are the “criminal acts” that the German military and civilian leaders were tried for illegal under any formal written laws? Why so?

3. Were such trials simply a case of “victor’s justice” or were such trials appropriate? You need to take a position here (one or the other). ARGUE YOUR POSITION with the sound and/or strong arguments that you can come up with (using the critical points raised in chapter 7)

The Nuremberg trials were carried out after the Second World War to bring to justice
the Nazi criminals. After Adolf Hitler came to power in 1933, he established a series of
policies intended to persecute the Jewish people because they were considered as the enemies
of the Nazi Government (Christopher, 2004). These persecution policies consisted of a series
of violent acts targeting the Jewish minorities and the murder of more than 10 million people
among which 6 million Jews (Christopher, 2004). After the defeat of the Nazi government
following World War II, the Nuremberg trials were organized between 1945 and 1949 and
consisted of a series of 13 trials, all carried out in Nuremberg, Germany (Christopher, 2004).
