1.
Social Context of Professional Nursing
Discuss current factors that influence the public's image of professional nursing? b. How can you
as a nurse/student nurse, tell members of society what professional nurses do?
The image of nursing is highly appreciated by the population, however, is a profession
highly judged by the lack of knowledge of users, who can limit the applicability of nursing to
change bandages or administer medication. On the other hand, the maleness perception of
society has made it understood as a feminine profession, however, many precursors of this
profession have been men who were able to identify the potential of the profession for society
(Errasti, Arantzamendi, Canga, 2012).
On the other hand, younger generations have been interested in demolishing myths, also,
older nurses, who are they are constantly training to be able to respond to social demands, this
shows that education is a key aspect, both for users and for nursing professionals, who are
interested in venturing into more and more specific fields. Finally, the research processes carried
out by the nurses have allowed the credibility of the profession to grow, because many nurses are
interested in giving contributions to society that can in some way improve health in general
(Errasti, Arantzamendi, Canga, 2012).
These changes, from my perspective, are the strategies that nurses should continue, being
curious academically, so as to sharpen more and more the clinical practices, not only in a
hospital, but also with family, friends, who can appeal to us as a wellness tool (Errasti,
1.
Arantzamendi, Canga, 2012).
What advantages do women have in nursing? What advantages do men have in the profession?
What are the risks of being gender exclusive?
To understand the gender differences in the profession, it is important to understand the
beginnings of nursing as an activity of housewives assistance by the war, which, clearly had a
component of objectivity, then, while men were in the war, the loving mothers and wives took
care of the wounded soldiers, which allowed to generate a stereotyped profile of the profession.
Later, different precursors of nursing developed theories as a theoretical basis to base the
knowledge and professionalism of the profession, together with men who focused on a less
assistance and more investigative scope, which began to generate a rupture of the stereotype of
the profession
Finally, the macho beliefs sowed some inequalities in a naturally feminine profession,
such as better salaries, better positions, greater possibilities of promotion within the health
system, and managerial positions for men, while women continued fighting to position
themselves in a world dominated by women but run by men, however, the advantage of women
is due to the innate construction of care by the mother, by the grandmother, which generates a
maternal vision, while men can generate some kind of distrust (Kuota, 2010).
1. Discuss present trends associated with the profession of Nursing. What do you think the
profession of Nursing will look like 10 years from now?
I agree with Masters (2017), this author point that there is an unbalanced demand and
supply in the healthcare environment. Unfortunately, this difference has revealed that the quality
and safety of patient care is compromised, because currently, there are not enough professional
nurses for all the patients who need them.
Within ten years, I believe that this disparity will not exist, because currently, nursing is
venturing into a path of professional, practical, and investigative that allows nurses to have more
diverse fields of action. Additionally, public perception about nursing is increasingly rewarding,
since pedagogization strategies, organizations, and health policies promote a positive perception
towards the work of nurses and the role they have for the health of people.
Also, within 10 years, the profession should be at an academic level such as doctors,
psychologists, and psychiatrists. Although it is currently an academic care profession, nurses
often achieve better clinical success than physicians, who unfortunately are increasingly
distancing themselves from the human component of patients, on the contrary, nursing promotes
positive bonding with patients, allowing us to be the first resource of a patient to ask for help,
answer questions.

DQ1.
Different factors influence the public image of nursing practice. These factors include the
presentation of the professional with patients and their families in the healthcare environment.
Besides, it impacts the perception of visitors and other operational workers who are involved in
the care of patients (Hoeve , Jansen & Roodbol, 2017).
The ability to collaborate is a quality that public opinion seeks in nurses, friendly and
cooperative work with colleagues is perceived as a code of altruism and interest in others. They
demonstrate their ability to work in a team for the good of others without personal limitations,
allowing patients, colleagues, and workers to feel confident in the degree of dedication that
nurses demonstrate (Hoeve , Jansen & Roodbol, 2017).
Nurses or nursing students should begin to relate to the responsibilities of the nursing
practice. RNs are expected to be professionally capable of offering quality and safety to the
pacintes, also offering compassionate, humanitarian, and holistic attention
(Hoeve , Jansen & Roodbol, 2017).
Nurses are expected to be agents of change involved in the processes and pedagogization
campaigns for citizens to improve the quality of life of citizens. Likewise, the CNS are specialist
nurses, certified to work at advanced levels of care and attention, from these nurses, a high
degree of clinical, pathological, humanitarian, and charitable understanding is expected
(Hoeve , Jansen & Roodbol, 2017).
DQ2.
The nursing profession historically is associated with the feminine and maternal work of
care and attention. Patients often rely on female nurses for their social, humanitarian, and high
capacity for empathy; Female nurses often resolve conflicts positively because they tend to avoid
confrontations. Another advantage is that female patient feels more comfortable with female
nurses in special care and attention, also for pediatric and Gerontological care (Therapia Staffing,
2016).
As for male nurses, they generally earn more money than female nurses. They tend to be
unit leaders with potentially problematic patients, for example, psychiatry. Unfortunately, it
seems that they currently have more administrative or financial job opportunities because they
are considered efficient for specific tasks (Therapia Staffing, 2016).
The risks of being gender-exclusive in nursing limits the possibilities of offering safe and
quality care for patients. However, the biases surrounding the gender of nurses prevail, but the
current pedagogy with the patient and the health system, in general, reduces the limitations of the
practice of the nurses based on gender (Therapia Staffing, 2016).
DQ3.
Nursing as a profession is one of the careers that face graduates to constant challenges
and critical roles in the system of care and patient care. The continuous evolution of the practice
and the theory has involved has been changes that respond to the constant changes of the
population. For example, in the United States, the community is getting older, exceeding the
birth rates of new citizens. Aging is a phenomenon that forces nurses to specialize in care and
pathologies that affect this specific population (Franklin, 2015).
Nurses should familiarize themselves with the treatments, the therapeutic and physical
intervention that involves taking care of the elderly to be efficient and useful to the current
population phenomena. In addition to this, they are producers of knowledge that allow the use of
research for future generations and specialize in attention and care (Franklin, 2015).
In ten years, the influence of science and technology will be in sync with nursing care
and attention. Different technological resources will be available to facilitate the diagnosis and
intervention of nursing. Also, it will allow people to be more easily involved with the medical
diagnosis because the infusion would be expected to be in the public domain.
This technological advance will be focused on improving the quality of life of patients,
and in addition to the fact that the majority of preventable diseases are eradicated, such as lung
cancer due to tobacco consumption, therefore, education will be a substantial aspect of the
activities of Nursing.
