Some various representations and misrepresentations have shaped
nurses' images. One is the one that is depicted in works of fiction
like novels, Ads, and many others. Most of these television show describes nurses as flighty, flippant, and sexy to the public. For example, some advertisements and posters depict nurses as mostly being
women who appear to ratchet and naughty. Polls have identified
nursing professionals as one of the most ethical and honest professions. The surveys indicated the majority of the public saw nurses
highly knowledgeable, helpful, trustworthy, and dependable
(Laplante et al., 2017). They are also mostly enlightened females
who are overworked.
Friends and families might form their perception of nursing from
the media, personal experience, and nurses' comments and behaviors. Parents still see their nurse as a child first. Family members
and neighbors, on the other hand, expect that the nurse is a source
of all information. The public sees the nursing profession as one that
ha shortage which could translate that the public sees nurses being
overpaid, sickly people who work in undesired hours.
As a nurse, I would first assess my views, behaviors, and attitude to
give a more positive image of the profession. I can, therefore, display my character in an excellent way through personal interactions
with patients. My actions should promote the real picture of the
nursing profession, such as telling details, respecting the patient's
confidentiality, dealing with the fear of failure. I also could educate
the public about the nurses' works, respond to public queries using
real stories. As a nurse, I would then participate in public speaking,
community activities, or political activities so that I can act as a representative of the nurses and depict the right behavior.

Women have higher chances of getting hired in female areas that require mental strength such as delivery, nursing areas, and labor. Another benefit that we can see is that the profession has a high female
ratio to men, and this offers them many advantages. Women, therefore, have the advantage of having an easy time when it comes to
working in this field dominated by fellow women. Women also are
associated as being caring and therefore have a positive image from
the public, unlike the male counterparts.
Advantages of Men in Nursing
When it comes to promotions into administrative and management
positions, men are favored. Besides, men have an easier time when
it comes to getting job positions, especially ones that require physical strength. Although they receive the same salary, as their nursing
careers advance men tend to get more wages because they chose
specialties that pay more.
Gender Inclusive Risks
This can cause a lowering of motivation, especially to the gender minority. For instance, male nurses have experienced criticism for entering this 'female-identified' nursing profession. Such males risk
their genders being questioned. Gender stereotypes the role of men
nurses in using special care (Hodges et al., 2017). This has acted as
barriers to male nurses in providing health care. If this is not controlled, it could further lead to forcing out the male gender from the
nursing profession. Male gender, therefore, has some barriers when
it comes to providing health care, especially when it comes to the
use of intimate touch.

Trends in Nursing
The nursing profession has not been immune to bullying. There
have been incidences of harassment in faculty to student, nurse to
nurse interactions. Nursing programs have experienced, dropouts,
attempted suicides, humiliations, burnouts as a result of bullying.
There is also a shortage of nurses in the workplace (Masters, 2018).
This has been attributed due to the increasing world population, an
increase in technology, older people. This has the nursing shortage
has further depicted that there is increased demand for nurses. This

has led to the rise in workplace environment-related issues coming
up. This has influenced the ratio of patients to staff and increased
workload. This has brought up concerns regarding job dissatisfaction, unhealthy work environments, and unsafe patient care. The
practice environment has led to trends in the increased number of
nurses leaving the profession.
Due to increasing hospital complexity and changes, the nursing profession is getting more complicated. With new technology advancements, the nursing profession is being more complicated (Roux et
al., 2017). Some scenarios show nurses' time being wasted since they
do work that they are not supposed to do.
Professional Nursing in 10 Years' Time
In ten years’, time, the nursing industry will have changed. With
new challenges, the aging population and shifting technology, the
rate of change will be rapid. Nurses are forced to evolve and ensure
that hospitals provide the best health care. We expect to see more
nursing leadership opportunities such as nurse managers, leaders,
and many more. They will have more roles that will require advanced degrees (Benton et al., 2016). I also expect an increase in the
amount of health data that will be collected in information technology infrastructures such as wearable devices, health records, and
patient portals. This trend impacts nursing practice and will create
more job titles with specialists who deal with informatics. There
thus will be an increased need for nursing education in the workplace. Changes are expected in the settings in which nurses will have
to work in. Nurses will be working in private practices, clinics, and
ambulances.

Question 1
The public values in nursing. When people are asked to defend their
reasons for liking nurses, they often respond with their interactions with
nurses. The fact that nurses serve society automatically brings out the
positive impact of society's value for nursing. Several factors influence
how the public view professional nursing. First, the media plays a vital
role in how society views professional nursing. In the past, nurses have
been depicted in various ways by the media. At times they are depicted
as tough and aggressive while at other times depicted as caring and trustworthy (Masters, 2014). Depending on the image portrayed by the media, the society shall make conclusions on what they have seen and
heard from the media.
Books and journal about nursing may affect how we view professional nursing. Different authors portray nursing as a profession in different ways. Depending on what has been written about the profession,
the reader will make imagery on how the profession works or appears to
be. Finally, nurses affect how we view their professions directly. Better
insight into professional nursing must come from within the nurses
themselves. They should communicate their permanent place to the public. Only at that point will they make the public image of nursing
change.
There are various ways that a student nurse and a registered nurse
may tell members of the society what exactly they do. They may opt to
educate the public in daily life. Nurses may hold seminars in which thy
explain wht they do to the public. Nurses must be ready to respond to
queries with real life stories concerning nursing. This is so that the stereotype people have concerning nursing may be done away with, and the
truth about the profession brought out. Other means of creating awareness would be to respect the patients' confidentiality, to deal with the
fear of failure and being ready to take advantage of openings to promote
nursing.

Women hold some advantages over men in the nursing profession. In western culture, women have been socialized as the more passive of the gender, avoiding conflicts and yielding more to authority as
compared to their male counterparts. Women have been known to be
better multi-taskers as compared to men. This allows them to perform
several tasks with minimal pressure as compared to their male colleagues hence making the nursing profession seem easier as more work
is done. Finally, women in the past had their roles geared to family responsibility. They have been prepared for generations to serve the people. This makes them easy for people to work with.
There is some debate that men in nursing have some advantage
over their female peers. Men have been considered to be more orderly as
compared to females. They are believed to have their act together and
without distractions maintain orderliness. Male nurses are more oriented
and motivated to upgrade their professional status, making them take up
the leadership role. This makes them more respected by the patients. Finally, male nurses are usually mistaken to be physicians or medical students, making patients more trusting with their work (Masters, Role Development Professional Nursing Practice, 2018).
Gender exclusiveness poses some risks to the nursing profession;
some patient may end up not allowing one sex of nurses to care for
them. This may affect the health of the patient if urgent care is needed,
and no nurse of the desired sex is available. Having a bias on one sex
may bring conflict in the industry and make nurses fail to interact well in
the workplace.
Question 3
Professional nursing is facing various changes. There is a shortage of nurses in the industry. This affects the practicing nurse, especially
in staff and patient ratios and workload and the resulting influences on
nurse turnover rate. There has been a change in healthcare delivery over

the past few years. Most of these changes have been associated with response to the increasing cost of care, decreasing cot of reimbursement to
care providers and increased use of technology in practice.
There is an issue of unemployment of non-RN personnel, which
has led to a decrease in nurse faculty. There has been a shift in demographics. This has been caused by the increase in the population of
people over eighty-five years that not only forces nurses to learn how to
take care of them but also how to communicate with them. Other trends
that have occurred in the nursing industry include increased patient education on nurses, continued growth in technology in nursing and finally,
an increase in access to nursing education (Franklin, 2015).
In ten years, the nursing industry is expected to face some
changes. The number of male peers in the nursing industry I expected to
increase as more men are getting into the nursing field. More people
shall have a clear perspective of what nursing I all about a campaign to
increase nursing awareness has been on the increase. It is expected that
the number of registered nurses shall increase in ten years as non-RN
personnel are lacking jobs in hospitals. To increase their chances to get
jobs, they shall be forced to get registered.
