Abstract
The purpose of the experiment is to calibrate a piece of equipment that will be used in
laboratory experiments. This is to ensure that the equipment is working properly. The lab entails
an exploration of experimental uncertainties and error analysis. It is important in science because
it involves a lot of experiments that require accuracy and precision especially when measuring
instruments are involved.

Introduction
The experiment involves the use of the digital and analog laboratory balance to attempt to
measure a laboratory mass of 200g to sub-resolution precession. We began the laboratory by
eliminating the uncertainties, then calculating the errors and lastly comparing the results. There
was 5 trial for the experiment. The measurements obtained in the lab were entered into the excel
file with Each measurement in a different column. The mean and the standard deviation were then
computed in excel using the average”=AVERAGE” and “STDEV.S” function in excel.

The mean mass obtained from the digital balance is 200.37g while the mean mass obtained
from the analog balance is 201.0g. The standard deviation for the digital balance is 0.60276 while
the triple balance is 1.34164.
