Experimental Research Designs
Experimental designs refer to designs of activities that are focused on explaining the
disparity of information under conditions conceived to reflect the variation. It is used in research
to improve the reliability, validity, and reproducibility of the data and introduce factors that may
affect the variations. It is also applicable in empirical intervention studies where the natural
conditions which may affect the variation are selected for observations. The experimental design
identifies dependent variables, independent variables, and control variables. It also ensures the
smooth running of an experiment under optimum statistical conditions (Christensen, Johnson, &
Turner, 2014).
Change in independent variables (input variables) is conceived to change dependent
variables (output variables). Designs of the experiment can establish the variables which must be
controlled to prevent external factors from influencing the results. Different approaches can be
used to develop experimental design points. Issues on reliability and validity can be addressed
partially by choosing the right variables, minimizing error and proper documentation. The
sensitivity and statistical power of the research should also be highlighted in the experimental
designs.
Laboratory-based research designs have a high degree of reliability and validity. It has
many models for the research design control and for building up validity. It may be difficult to
legitimize the generalizability of the outcomes in a firmly controlled or fake ...
