1. From: Chelsea Parrish Chapters 3, 4, and 5 all share a great common platform: ethics. I like that business ethics and organizational ethics were explained on why they differ and why they need to be on a separate level. I think it's interesting that business ethics deals more with a business idea of HR while organizational ethics is the common beliefs are between all employees of an organization. Organizational ethics made me immediately think of non-profit companies that share a desire to help people effected by their cause. ASPCA would not be a successful organization if all employees did not share the same need to help animals in need. Going off of the same organization, ASPCA also together share a desire for corporate social responsibility. The organizations values act as a way of also giving back to the community by helping various animal shelters across the nation. This eases the financial burden people face when helping homeless animals. I feel that any company must contribute back into the community. Corporate governance was an enjoyable topic to me. It comes down to a science on how different companies interact with other companies and their own employees. If this idea was not practiced, I think a lot of people would be unhappy with their job and company. A big part of this is making sure an employee is rewarded for good behavior and punished in a understandable way for bad behavior. An idea that comes to mind are employees working for Taco Bell. Although I have not personally worked for the company, I often see ads for applying for a job and being able to take advantage of company benefits, such as scholarships or tuition reimbursement. 2. From: Teranee Mathews Chapters 3,4,5 introduced some interesting topics. Chapter 3 begins by talking about organizational ethics. We have already been introduced to general ethics and business ethics, so this was a different way to look t ethics. The chapter starts off by telling us the 2 reasons why business ethics and general ethics should be identified as 2 different distinct areas. (1) Other parties (the stakeholders) have vested interest in ethical performance of an organization and (2) in a work environment, you may be placed in a situation where your personal value system may clash with the ethical standards of the organization’s operating culture. I thought that was a very good way to begin the chapter with a quick reminder of why the difference is so significant. The next 2 chapters discuss corporate social responsibility and corporate governance. These were 2 topics that I was not very familiar with, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading about. CSR is defined as the actions of an organization that are targeted toward achieving a social benefit over and above maximizing profits for its shareholders and meeting all its legal obligations. This to me means, they will do whatever it takes to ensure that the customer or receiver of the service is satisfied. I think every company should make this a top priority, but unfortunately, in many situations, it falls pretty low on the totem pole. Now with corporate governance, things are a little different. This is basically how organizations are directed and controlled. This can be managers, stakeholders, or anyone who has any control over the organization. 3. From: Corinne Mwengwe Organizational ethics is the values, the norms, the beliefs shared by all the employees of an organization. The employees are the strength of an organization and it is important for them to maintain a customary behavior and good atmosphere in the workplace. All the individual department in the organization (value chain) must refers to the code of conduct of the organization. By existing the company runs to earn profits, but it is more important to know how it makes money. The company should not allow unfair or illegal way to earn money. Making money must not be the only important thing. Pride, honor, honesty and transparency are more important. Depending on the company, the corporate social responsibility can have various aspects. With CSR, business can improve or boost their brands as it can benefit society. The activities of the CSR can help build a strong relation between employee and the corporation, it makes the employees and employers to be more in contact with the world surrounding them. The Corporate social responsibility is one of the ways to enlarge the corporation. To give back to the society, companies that have grown their business organize different programs as the companies must be responsible of themselves and their shareholders before engaging any social activities. Great responsibility comes with greater skills. Corporate governance direct and control the organization as the owner of the companies elected people who will responsibly, well represents their company. It is also about what the board of a company does and how it sets the values of the company. The responsibility is to set the company strategic aims, provide the leadership, supervise the management and report to the shareholders how the company is doing. A good governance that maintain consistency, responsibility, accountability, fairness, transparency and effectiveness will have impact on the company. It comes to my mind that to better run an organization, the company should refer to the organizational ethics from the way they deliver their services to keep up with their customers, have social responsibility and be guided, directed or represented by people with great skills.

Hello Chelsea Parrish,
Great post this week. I concur with you on the fact that organization ethics is a common
practice and belief among all employees in a firm. All workers in an organization need to be
ethical for an organization to be ethical. Ethics guides the behaviors and actions in an institution
and this helps in building a good image for the organization as well as its reputation. As stated,
business ethics is more in the business ideas of the firm rather than the actions of the
stakeholders of the business entity. Keeping an organization ethical requires the input of all its
employees. Support from all staff within an organization helps it maintain its image in the
industry.
Corporate social responsibility is one of the best ways a firm can remain ethical in its
operations. Socially responsible firms ensure it considers the interests of all its stakeholders in its
operations. As such, a company can give back to society through being socially responsible.
Companies wishing to build a good reputation in the market have to be ethical. Firms like
ASPCA have been able to build a good image in the ind...
