Describe the nature of operations management in the organization. In doing this, first,
describe the operation process of the production system. Second, identify operations
decisions and responsibilities. Finally, write a short paper on some of the challenges facing
operations management? (Marks 2) (Word count maximum: 500)
Operation management can be considered as the entire processes undertaken in an organization
because all that is done, the objective is to finally come up with the final product to help the
organization meet its objective though some scholars argue that operation function entails
producing what is demanded in the market (Jacobs, 2004). Irrespective of which definition holds,
for the production system to be effective, the operation management has look for the demand of
the intended product by identifying the level by which customers need the products where after,
they transform the information into goods and services at a specific period of time. Once the
right information concerning the market of the product has been identified, the management goes
ahead to look for the inputs in the form of raw materials required to achieve the production
process. On the same, because the company is not in a position to produce the required raw
material, the management out-source the mandate and search for reliable suppliers of the same.
This does not limit to out-sourcing but in the case where within the organization there is
someone with the capability of availing the raw material as per the requirements then he/she can
be up for the task hence internal vendor with the latter considered external vendor.
Operation decision and responsibility of an operation ...
