Muslin immigrants arrived in the United States in the 1880s (Semaan, 2014). The Muslim
immigrants then began to practice their culture in the United States, a society that was hitherto
dominated by Christian. It is interesting to understand how the immigration of Muslims into the
United States has affected the social and economic development of the regions where they settled
since independence.
The Muslims in the United States have historically been comprised of two groups, that is,
isolationist and integrationist (Semaan, 2014). The isolationist believes that their culture forbids
Muslims from interacting with non-Muslims. On the other hand, integrationist aloe interaction
with non-Muslims but want recognition of Muslim culture as part of United States cultures
(Semaan, 2014). It is important to compare how the isolationist and integrationist Muslim cultural
values affect their social and political development of both the Muslims and the society in general.
Islam culture is stereotypically viewed as a culture that oppresses women and denies women
the opportunity to take active roles in economic and political development. According to Bostan
(2011), however, the ancient Muslim teachings valued empowering women to take part in
education and the development of society. The stereotypes that deny women the opportunity to
take part in societal development and confine their roles to the household have emerged in
contemporary society. Understanding how this stereotype limits the overall potential of the society
