RESPONSE 1: DISASTER RECOVERY Organizations protect their customers’ privacy so as to protect confidential information from getting into wrong hands. This may include banking, contacts, addresses and social media passwords; as such crimes are costly to both the customers and the organization. However all this come at a cost, due to the advancement in technology they end up failing, because breaching and cyber-crime still takes place time to time some being intentionally or accidentally. Organizations face various challenges while trying to protect their customers’ privacy even after promising their clients full protection. In case the breach is unintentional or intentional organizations are mostly responsible for the secrecy breach, it is their obligation to know how to handle information; since they have every responsibility in ensuring client personal information is kept intact and secure (J., 2012, pp. 308319). Organizations find themselves in hard conditions once a breach has occurred, as they have to account to every penalties that are associated with the breach like; legislative fines, profit loss, and legal defense cost. The customer trustworthy to the organization is lost and most shift to other promising organizations due to poor publicity. There is high final loss since most customers go to court and enquire to be compensated for the incurred losses or exposure of confidential data (J., 2012, pp. 308-319). To avoid all this organizations may monitor their customers to adhere to the set procedures and policies, through sending them notifications on when to update and monitor their information. Surveillance may be set to avoid such troubles associated with employers’ violation. Organization may inform the employers on the risks associated with mishandling of customers information, they need to portray transparency. Also there should be a clear communication by the security personnel who act as eyes of the organization and customers this maybe in a situation where issues arises the customers need to be notified before they start sharing their details (Siponen, 2010, pp. 757-778.). J., & Raja, V. T. (2012). Protecting the privacy and security of sensitive customer data in the cloud. Computer Law & Security Review, 28(3), 308-319. RESPONSE 2: It is normal for organizations to collect their customers’ data and store it in their databases. This act always comes with a price. The organizations have a duty to diligently protect the information at all costs. Even though organizations promise that they will protect their customers’ data, sometimes they fail to do so (Karjoth, Scunter, & Waidner, 2003). Most organizations face problems for failing to protect their customers’ information. Take the example of a situation where the data is stolen by attackers. The customers’ run to courts demanding compensation. In other cases, organizations are accused of misusing personal data. This is done by selling customers’ data to third parties or using the data for marketing purposes. Sometimes they fail to observe disclosure requirements. It also happens that some firms delete data accidentally or let unauthorized personnel access it. The end result is that the organization spends millions trying to retrieve the data. Poor handling of clients’ data leads to a bad reputation. Firms should notify their users whenever a breach occurs (Schwartz & Janger, 2007). Organizations have a role of informing their clients that they do collect, monitor and store their data. This can be done by including it in websites where clients are expected to submit their data. They can also send a notification to clients letting them know what time of information is being collected and monitored. If calls are affected, customers should be notified before they start giving their details. On their side, customers can respond to this by accepting or declining to share their information. They can unsubscribe from services their dislike. Furthermore, they can seek clarification in case there is ambiguity. They can also ask firms to delete their data after the contractual terms. Privacy issues is the overriding challenge organizations face with regards to the protection of its
customer information. Companies face the threat of data breaches that are likely to compromise the
personal information of their customers. Cyber-attacks cost companies billions of dollars collectively
every years and the damages caused by these attacks are becoming more complicated to
remediate. This is why most firms have come to consider such intrusions as unavoidable and are
now a matter of “when, not if”. The solution now is to concentrate on the eventual hacker protection
and coming up with ways to protect sensitive data within organizations. Apart from the cost of
detection as well as data recovery, other challenges include loss of information, reputation damage
and business disruption. Sadly, attackers only need to penetrate an organization’s defenses just one
