I am a heterosexual female who is a citizen of the United States. The community activity
that I choose to attend is a wedding of a lesbian couple in Atlanta, Georgia. The bride, Shaleen,
is my childhood friend, and she sent me an invitation to her wedding. Her lover Corazon is of
Indian descent, and she is tall and masculine, just what a straight woman would want in a man. I
was in a dilemma for the two weeks before the wedding because one part of me convinced me
that it was wrong to attend a lesbian wedding because this would be encouraging my friend to do
the wrong thing. The other part urged me to participate in the wedding because I would be failing
my childhood friend by not being present during her happy day. When I spoke to my friend
Anna, she convinced me to attend the wedding because failure to attend would mean that I was
judging, and that would be wrong. She brought about the issue of culture and explained that it is
