Introduction
With the rising levels of misuse of both legal and illegal substances such as alcohol and
drugs, there is a growing need to come up with more effective treatment therapies for addiction
disorders among all age groups and genders. Currently, techniques such as detoxification,
recovery or psychosocial are being utilized to support addiction therapy. However, research has
shown that only 10% of individuals living with these disorders can access and stay committed to
these methods without relapsing (Hohmann et al.., 2017). Such situations have created an
opportunity to explore various therapy options for patients with substance use disorders, hence,
Louisa H., Joke B. Thomas S., and Stefan K decided to conduct a research on the effectiveness
of music therapy when it is subjected to the individuals suffering from substance use disorders.
To maintain the integrity of this research both positive and negative effects of these therapies
were considered. Due to the limited number of sources on conclusive effects of MT and MBIs on
SUDs, the conclusions of this research were based on result outcomes from the sampled articles.
