Federalism is a type of political system where two or more governments share authority
over one geographical area. Many democratic countries in the world use federalism as a form of
governance. Examples of these countries include the United States, India, Argentina, and
Australia. Although most European Union countries use the federal system, there are members in
the upper houses who are not elected but are representatives of their respective governments. For
federalism to work, there is a need for cooperation between regional governments (states) and
