FAMILY LIFE AND CONFLICT
1. Discuss why communication is the heart of a healthy family life. Pages 239-240
A family is the most valued social group in society. Communication helps in
making the members of the family remain together at all times. Proper communication
helps to express feelings that pertain to a particular person. Expressing emotions helps
family members to remain intimate at all times (Balswick & Balswick, 2014). Various
members can understand each other and determine how to approach the person depending
on the emotions. It helps to express anger in a person in case a person is offended by the
other, giving room for expression. Communication helps to increase the attachment with
various members hence creating interdependence. The interdependence on each other
helps to strengthen the intimacy between the members. Effective communication, every
member of a family feels secure at all times in terms of comfort, love, and security. It
also helps in eliminating conflict within a family when every member expresses anger,

isolation of people with no materialistic values. Lastly, people have become threats to
each other, and they tend to take any opportunity to exploit their neighbors. Every person
feels safe with staying confident with their information within themselves.
3. Discuss the effects of expressions of love, both verbal and non-verbal. Pages 242245
Expressing love is a significant activity in a family. It helps to assure the person
who is affected that he/she is loveable and has a place to rely on in life. It creates
confidence in a person to a great extent. The assurance of love from a person is a form of
security in living. In children, it helps to promote a good personality since the children
tend to reciprocate what they learn in society (Balswick & Balswick, 2014). Expression
love to a child makes them also become socially active in the community. In a family, set
