Five common causes of back injuries and how they can be prevented
Today, back injuries are the most common type of workplace injuries among many
employees. There are different causes of the workplace back injuries, and each can have
distinctive remedies. Improper lifting technique is among the common causes of the workplace
back injuries (Gatty, 2013). Many organizations fail to offer safety training regarding weight
lifting, workplaces should provide adequate training and constant reinforcement of back safety
skills, and employees should be routinely coached on proper lifting techniques to ensure all
employees avoid back injuries. Exerting too much force is another cause, many employees exert
too much force on their back, this includes moving heavy objects or lifting too heavy loads thus
injuring their back. This can be prevented by ensuring employees understand their lifting limits,
ensuring alteration of physically demanding tasks with less demanding to avoid continuous
heavy lifting (Getty, 2013).
Poor working posture and inactivity also cause back injuries, especially if someone sits
