Description
1.Write a 250-300 words proposal of the research question about "The role of women in the Bible." (Think your question under this topic)
You will summarize the essays you read and produce an Annotated Biblography. During this process, your question itself might get refined or changed. You should shoot for 5-10 sources. It is important that you read these carefully and write accurate, helpful annotations.
The proposal needs to include:
(a) your question
(b) why your question matters
(c) how your paper would answer the question, based on the research.
(d) what evidence you would use to support your argument (what *kind* of evidence, and where it is available; this can include the language of the text itself, historical details, cultural artifacts, expert authority, etc.)
Essentially, the proposal summarizes what you would argue if you were to write up your research paper.
- Your project will be assessed on the quality of the process as well as the product of your labor: how your question refines or gets changed as you work.
- The number of sources is important, but even more so, the quality of sources and your engagement with the sources is crucial and will show in the Annotated Bibliography.
- The quality of your research proposal is important. We will look for:
- clarity of writing
- proper scale: adequately narrow argument
- viable and interesting argument
- argumentative stakes: an argument that matters
- an argument that matters specifically to the Bible
- an argument that can be well supported with evidence
2. Write a simple annotation of one of your sources that you're going to use in your proposal above.
