Description of Target Group
Central Valley has a total population of about seven million people. Less than half of this
population is composed of women; however, men are the majority contributing to over 65% of
the population (Johnson, 2017). It has four sub-regions with have almost similar distribution of
women in every sub-region. On the other hand, the total population of California in 2018 was
39,557,000, and women represented 50.3% of this population. According to the US Bureau of
Census 2018, the total number of females in the US was 163.2 million. The number of women is
almost equal to men; however, men are slightly higher. Women made about 49.6% of the total
world population. The birth ration of men to women is 101 to 100 (World Health Organization,
2016).
Most women do not earn higher income compared to their men counterparts. In Central
Valley, fewer women earn $30,000 the same as California (Johnson, 2017). According to the US
Bureau of Census 2018, about 46.4 percent of women participate in civilian labor force earning a
good salary. Similarly, 63% of women are social scientists. 9.7% of women earn nearly $30000
more than their husbands in 2016 in the US (Ratcliffe et al., 2016). Almost 12.5 million women
are enrolled in colleges and undergraduate universities; this constitutes about 55% of all college
students. Girls showed an increased rate of enrollment in school than boys across all levels
worldwide according to the 2018 United Nations Report. However, gender disparity seems to
widen as the educational level increases.
According to WFP Gender Policy and Strategy 2017, about sixty percent of hungry
individuals worldwide are women. Women comprise of forty-three percent of the agricultural
labor force in low and middle countries. Approximately seventy percent of employed women

earn a living through working in agrarian firms, so does sixty percent in Sub Saharan Africa.
Fewer than 20% of women own lands in Africa and India.
Besides, women comprise two-thirds of the 796-illiterate people in the world (Ratcliffe et
al., 2016). Global statistics show that only thirty-nine percent of rural girls go to secondary
schools, while about forty-five percent of boys attend secondary schools in rural areas. In urban
areas, 59% of girls attend secondary school, similar to 60% of boys.
In rural areas, women hold temporary and low paying jobs, while men tend to keep goodpaying jobs (Neira et al., 2017). Women also get a lower salary compared to men for doing a
similar task. Similarly, the average wage for men is higher than that for women in both rural and
urban areas. Women in rural areas also work more than men because of reproductive, domestic,
and care roles that they have to attend to.
The cultures of most communities tend to predispose women to various risky practices
and behaviors. For instance, in most rural areas, women are supposed to endure anything without
complaining. Again, women are not supposed to make a decision and must consult their
husbands before doing anything (Neira et al., 2017). Additional responsibilities that women must
attend to because of culture and norms in society drive to exhaustion, thus impacting lives. Also,
the community makes the woman a slave to a man to the extent that they are not supposed to
complain even when suffering unless through their husbands. The problem is when the husband
is the problem. Besides, access to health for women is a choice that rests with men in rural and
some urban regions (Neira et al., 2017). This hinders women quality of health and predisposes
