5. Examine the role of the gods and their interaction with the mortals. Are the gods beneficial or harmful? How do the gods appear in the works? (Remember: Gilgamesh deals with Sumerian gods, while the rest of the works deal with the Greek gods.)

Examine the concept of justice. Who decides what is just? Is justice always served?
The concept of justice may be understood differently and applied variedly by many
people with regard to the context and circumstances. As early as the classical ages, many
philosophers and scholars attempted to define the concept of justice. Aristotle perhaps covered
the foundation of justice when he said that it is 'treating like cases alike.' Besides, he also
classified a type of justice that concerns punishing individuals for mistakes that they have made.
Thus, when an individual is suspected of having committed a crime, the person may be arrested
and presented before a magistrate for sentencing. When the person is sentenced and punished for
the crimes he committed, in that case, justice would be said to have been done. Another angle in
which justice may be described is with regard to the actions of the state (the government). The
idea of just state is mostly associated with Plato, and it refers to the ability of the government to
treat its citizens fairly and with reference to the established laws and rules. For this paper, justice
is going to be examined with regard to the actions of the state. The ability of the state to rule
justly is essential for the stability of the state since it prevents the development of anarchy.
While it is the primary responsibility of the government to protect all citizens, there are
many instances when the government may not act justly. For example, there are many times
when leaders arise within states and start introducing tendencies that are dictatorial and punitive.
When these leaders arise, they usually cause havoc and destruction to the countries. In Germany,
the rise Adolf Hitler spelled doom for the country. When he ascended to power, Hitler
demonstrated a tremendous level of passion, and his ambition was evident. He must have wanted
to make Germany the dominant player in the world. In his unguarded ambition, Hitler caused

destruction to Germany. It is essential to note that it was during the reign of Hitler that many
people lost their lives. Looking at this time in the history of the country, there was no justice
being served to the people. In the long run, the country descended into chaos and disorder. In the
