The nation’s cities are the engine of the country’s economy as they create opportunity for
suburban, rural and tribal areas. Most of the industries are located in major cities around the
United States employing millions of Americans both young and old. In the United States, the top
100 cities account for about three-quarters of the country’s gross domestic product. This is
because of the high level of economic activities that are associated with big cities and in the
United States. Cities also bring people and companies together on proximity which in this case
creates an opportunity for innovation which in the bottom line leads to positive growth in
economic development.
Moreover, most American cities play the role of sustainability leadership as a result of
their high population density. For example, New York City is one metropolitan city in the United
States with the highest population than most other states but uses less energy when compared to
