1. How is critical thinking defined? As a critical thinker, how do you approach current
social issues and problems?
Critical thinking refers to objective evaluation and analysis of a particular issue intending
to form a judgment. In critical thinking, the subject under analysis is evaluated deeply to
facilitate making the right decisions. Critical thinking plays a very crucial role in solving
problems faced in society or rather in an institution. An in-depth analysis of a problem is carried
out and this makes one approach the problem from different angles. Solutions to the challenges
are outlined and each solution is analyzed in deep. The rigorous analysis and evaluations are
what constitutes critical thinking. Since critical thinking requires an in-depth analysis of a
situation or subject, it usually takes some time to make an informed decision. The decisions
made, however, are very effective and useful as it helps solve different problems faced in
society. Critical thinking calls for making judgments based on in-depth analysis and evaluation
of the subject under consideration.
Critical thinking is very crucial as it helps one to make informed decisions all the time.
Quality decisions are essential as they enable one to approach issues with an open eye. This
means in making decisions about something, different aspects surrounding the decisions are
evaluated and a judgment is made. Critical thinking, for instance, is very effective in solving
social problems faced in society. Critical thinkers can come up with an effective solution to such
challenges hence make life easier and better for others in society (Chambliss & Eglitis, 2018).
Critical thinking also ensures one makes well-informed opinions and decisions on different
subjects and issues in society. Besides, it also helps people create and build good relationships
since they can understand and respect the different personalities and cultural backgrounds of

people in society. Since critical thinking leads to a person making better decisions, it also
contributes to a happy living of people in society since one can make the right choices in life.
As a critical thinker, I would approach the current social problems and issues being faced
in society from a different perspective to come up with long-lasting solutions to them. An indepth analysis and evaluation of the key causes of the current issues and problems being faced
with be very crucial in developing an everlasting solution to it. Preventing the cause of the
problem, for instance, will not only solve the problem but also ensure the causes of the problem
are eliminated. Climate change and global warming is yet another current social issue and
problem being faced in society. As such, in handling this issue, I would first analyze the root
cause of it to come up with the most effective solution to it. The main cause of climate change
has been identified as air pollution which is mainly caused by fossil fuel. As such,
recommending the use of renewable energy will not only minimize the release of carbon dioxide
in the air but also promote the conservation of the environment.
The new technology, for instance, has become a threat to society despite being useful to
it. In handling the issue of digital society and information, I would approach it from the positive
side of it. Making decisions that promote better use of the new technology in the society would
greatly solve some of the problems contributed by it. In making such a decision, an in-depth
analysis of the problems faced as a result of the new technology will be very crucial. This will
bring out alternative measures that can be used to promote peaceful living of people in the
society. Positive use of the new technology impacts positively to the people in the society since
they are able to use it to benefit them.
