How Indigenous People Resisted
Indigenous people resisted against missioners by establishing violence against the settlers
in their land. The violence arose and was accelerated by a gold rush by missioners in California
(Chilcote, 2019). The missioners wanted to dominate the land due to its natural resources like
gold and indigenous people could allow them. The indigenous people also resisted against the
missioners by gaining support from the federal government. In 1863, the federal government
gave the state U.S.$ 1 million to support its military to fight against the missioners (Chilcote,
2019). The State legislators also passed laws to favor the indigenous people in power so that they
