Contract for grading: Utrum Paper By entering into this contract, both student and instructor should know what to expect from the grading process. Provided the student completes satisfactory work, the grade agreed to will be granted. Assignment: ● Using Thomas Aquinas as a structural guide, you are to write an utrum paper on a contemporary issue of your choosing. This paper must faithfully argue both sides of an issue before deciding on the merits of either the videtur or sed contra positions. ● The manuscript may be submitted either electronically or in hard copy (printed out). ● The manuscript is to be formatted in Times New Roman font, 12 points, double-spaced, with one-inch (1”) margins at the top, bottom, left, and right. Stipulations: ● “Satisfactory work” shall mean work completed at a level of mastery equivalent to at least 85%, or “B” on a standard grading scale. ● If the student fails to meet this level of mastery, they shall have one (1) additional attempt at the assignment and will have instructor comments available to guide them in this second attempt. ● In the event that a student fails to meet the criterion of satisfactory work in that second attempt, a grade of “C” will be assigned. Grading criteria: ● To receive a grade of “A”, you must submit a manuscript of ten (10) pages formatted as above. ● To receive a grade of “B”, you must submit a manuscript of eight (8) pages formatted as above. ● Any student who contracts for an “A” and turns in fewer than the required ten (10) pages will receive a grade of “B”, provided that the work meets the criteria for a “B”. ● Any student who contracts for a “B” and turns in fewer than the required eight (8) pages will receive a grade of “C”, provided that the work is otherwise satisfactory. ● A grade of “F” will be assigned to any student who fails to turn in satisfactory work of at least seven (7) pages in length. I have read and understood the criteria described above.

CHRISTIANITY AND SECULARIZATION OF THE WORLD

Are Christians to blame for increased secularization of the world?
Introduction
Christianity has gone through different stages of transformations as times continue to change and
it is changing rapidly in the 21st century, where communications, commerce, and travel are
interconnected in unimagined ways. In the 21st century Christianity has been characterized or
shaped by what can be termed as unity in one faith, resistance to the persecution, and the
increased secularization. For Christianity it has experienced several challenges over the years,
and this has exerted even more pressure on the believers who are forced to adapt to current times.
For the masters of suspicion such as Marx, Nietzsche, and Freud they all thought that
Christianity would end in the 20th century but that was prediction that is yet to validated in the
21st century. For others they enthusiastically considered the reason for the possible death of
Christianity to the secularization hypothesis. However, the strong link between the hypothesis
and reality on the ground is that Christians are adapting to the times, and they are, in fact,
supporting secularization.
For most sociologists of the Christian faith in the west, they would agree that the process of
secularization has led to a decline in the world's religious faith and view, and this has brought
radical changes in American society in the 21st century. Change is inevitable but the extent to
which any of the changes affect us is open to debate. Thus this paper will seek to analyze the
extent to which Christianity has contributed to the increased secularization of the world.

How Christians are to blame for the secularization of the world
According to a recent survey by Heimlich (2019), it demonstrated that the number of people
without any religious affiliation they are outnumbering the Christian population, particularly in
America and England. However, among the figures stated, the huge number of people without
religious affiliation is actually the Christians who have adopted to the times, and they have
become more hybrid. On the other hand, as Armstrong (2014) highlights that we as a world are
not becoming more atheist, but we are all becoming secularized as Christians, and we are
supporting the idea. As McLeod and Hempton (2017) state further that Christians are making the
world more secularized because they are taking part in the process of secularization. For
Marshall (2018), he terms the situation as a clash in civilizations as people are moving to a more
globalized world; it means that it is often difficult to distinguish between the pure Christians and
those that are actually part of the secularized world.
For America's younger generation they are unable to distinguish between what is secular and
what is purely Christian. As (McLeod & Hempton, 2017) highlight our society is adopting to
individualism and abandoning what is considered as a group way of thinking. For Christianity as
a faith it can be considered as a group thinking because the members involve themselves in
rituals and practices that reflect and emulate Christ's life as the leader of Christianity. For
Armstrong (2014) he notes how previous generations have continued to alter and destroy the
original teachings and instead they have chosen to replace it with their secularized ideas. The
changes have been brought about by changes in the political world. For instance Rome was once
a superpower, and it used its political powers to spread catholic religion, and this is the same
case in the current world where politics is shaping religions and influencing the world.

CHRISTIANITY AND SECULARIZATION OF THE WORLD

When we open our eyes and look around, we can note that majority of the Americans are
influenced by the political leaders who have adopted more secularized values. Even though the
Christian beliefs continue to remain strong with increased interconnectedness of the world
through technology we can note that Am...
