Why International students may feel lonely and alienated?
The US educates over 6.5% of the world's post-secondary students. Over 700, 000
international students have been enrolled in the US higher education institutions (Patron). The

majority of these students come from Saudi Arabia, China, Canada, and India (Lewermark.com).
They consider the US as the best destination for pursuing their higher education. Most of these
leaners anticipate their US adventure as an excellent opportunity. However, when they arrive in the
US, these students begin to struggle with social and learning experiences that seem foreign to them.
They find social adjustment extremely difficult. In crossing national borders, these students leave
their homes and social networks in their countries of origin. Generally, their inability to adequately
adjust to the new environment often results in problems such as loneliness, which significantly
