The Events that led to the American Revolution
Introduction
The American Revolution, which is also referred to as the American Revolutionary War or
United States War of Independence, was experience in 1775 to 1783. It was a war that was
waged by the American colonies against Britain, and it impacted political aspects and revolutions
in the entire world because a small unexperienced state earned its independence from the most
significant military during that time (Dickinson, 2014). Prior to the American Revolution,
America comprised several British colonies but not the revolution was not supported or
participated by all the colonies. Rhode Island, South Carolina, Massachusetts, Georgia, Virginia,
New Hampshire, New Jersey, Connecticut, New York, Maryland, Delaware, North Carolina and
Pennsylvania were the thirteen colonies that rebelled against the rule of Great Britain. The
American colonies resistance and war with the British government was not an impetuous, or
sudden act because the joining of the 13 colonies to fight and conquer the British Empire for
independence was influenced by a series of events that had begun more than a decade before.
These events included; proclaim on no taxation without representation that was initiated with the
Stamp Act Congress in 1765. The colonies objected the leadership of the British administration
to tax the citizens of the states because they were not represented in the government parliament.
Moreover, the Boston Massacre in 1770 fired the protests as well as in 1772, the Burning of the
Gaspee in Rhode Island (Egnal, 2010). In December 1773, the protest was escalated by the
Boston Tea Party. In 1767, the imposition of the Townshend Acts, the March to June 1774
coercive Acts, Lexington and Concord in April 1775 as well as the British attacks on coastal
towns in October 1775 to January 1776.
