members. It is also the degree to which the individual has emotional or affectionate ties to these
people. The social bond theory explains that individuals who have strong attachments are less
likely to engage in deviant behavior (pg452).
Commitment: This is the aggregate investment of energy, time, and resources in conventional
activities such as getting an education or holding a job. As a result, people with strong
