Re: Presentation

For this project and presentation, you will be focusing on Organizational Change, which is discussed in Chapter 16. Organizational change can come about for a number of reasons, which include problems within the organization that decreases its reputation or product confidence, innovation, technological improvements, or simply staying ahead of the competition. Mergers and acquisitions, changes in leadership, ethical violations, and organizational mistakes may require changes to the organization.

For example, remember Tony Howard, the former chief executive of BP? He faced leadership and communication problems within his organization following the 2010 oil spill. BP's image and value plummeted, and the employees' motivation followed. BP needed to make external changes, and these changes needed to be accepted internally (by the employees) in order to be successful. BP and Howard would be in a lot better shape if they had consulted with us! We want to show this client we can take such an event, research its history, and apply organizational behavior concepts to recommend successful solutions. You will learn that change is very difficult to implement in an organization. “Out with the old, and in with the new” is not always welcome by the organization’s staff. Many employees like the old ways and may be not embrace the change. So, the question becomes – how to get everyone on the staff to support the change.

I need you to research and write a paper where you will review an organization that you find needs to implement a change. For this Week 6 your paper will analyze the organization, identify its problems that make it ripe for a change, and apply a change theory.

I want to be absolutely certain that you follow all directions to a “T”, so read the directions to the project below very carefully. Let’s get this deal! Good luck and let me know if you have questions.

1. Locate 3 peer-reviewed journal articles that discuss organizational change and organizational change model. (Limit your change model discussion to the two change models identified in the text in Chapter 16: Lewin and Kotter). This will require research using library databases. Note your text does not count toward the 3 peer-reviewed articles. You can use Google Scholar or the Library resources to locate the 3 peer-reviewed articles.

2. Topic: Start by locating an organization that has experienced a problem or event that has a significant effect on the organization. Review news reports, newspapers or business periodicals such as National Public Radio, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, Business Week or the New York Times. You will need to use 3 references for this part.

3. Write 6-7 pages (pure content) with the following headings and discussing:
a. Definition and discussion of Organizational Change.
b. Why this organization was chosen: Identification of the organization and its problems
c. Identification of Organizational Change Models.
d. Choose the best of the 2 Change Models (Lewin or Kotter) and apply it to the Organization. This is best done using a step by step approach.
e. Provide a brief (2 paragraphs) overview of a Change Management Plan to explain the monitoring and progress reporting during the implementation of this plan.

4. Include a reference page with headings as follows:
a. Peer-Reviewed Articles: (Include three peer-reviewed journal articles that discuss organizational change and organizational change model).
b. News/Business Periodicals: (Include three references to newspapers or business periodicals that discuss the topic/organization you have chosen to review and its problems)

Provide a title page with your name. Your content should include 6-7 pages, using double-spaced Times New Roman font. You should include headings, topic sentences, and the inclusion of the weekly learning. You must cite to at a minimum 6 sources, (3 peer-reviewed from Google Scholar and 3 newsworthy articles as stated in step 2) using APA format. Note your text does not count toward the 6 sources.

Lastly, remember to write the entire paper in APA and use third person. That means, don't write "I, me, we, our" or "you"

Title page and reference pages don't count as content

Case Analysis of Organizational Change

Definition and discussion of Organizational Change
The continuous growth of the business environment subjects organizations to various
changes that they have to make to maintain a competitive advantage in their respective
industries. According to Brisson-Bank (2010), organizations develop and implement change
strategies to prevent the risk of stagnation, as this may result in severe loses in the organizations.
Also, the management may not be aware of the type of changes that take place and thus must
adequately prepare for the changes and the possible outcomes. Therefore, organizational change
concentrates on the processes that organizations utilize to improve the production methods, the
organizational structure, strategies as well as technologies and the impact of changes on the
various aspects in an organization (Rajan &Ganesan, 2017). Organizational changes are as a
result of the internal and external factors. The internal factors the organizational structure, the
people, and conditions in the organizations that are manageable and under the company’s
control.
However, external factors occur outside the organizations but result in changes in the
organizations and thus are past the control of the company. These factors include the competition
from either new or existing businesses, customers due to their tendencies to change in taste and
preferences and the economic status. It also consists of the rapid changes in technology as well
as the political and social conditions that influence business operations. The management should,
therefore, conduct environmental scanning to identify the factors that have an impact on the
organization (Brisson-Bank, 2010). For example, modification of the business structure and
process may be an appropriate strategy for the survival of a business. It is also an excellent
opportunity for small businesses to learn how to be successful, while large companies also need

to make rapid adjustments to eliminate the possibility of being overtaken by small companies
(Rajan &Ganesan, 2017). Therefore, organizations must develop and implement strategies for
efficient and cost-effective business operations.
Organizations undergo changes such as the transformational change that focuses on the
organizational strategy. Therefore, it is essential to create a comprehensive plan that identifies
the factors contributing to change and design the possible actions that the organization must
follow to have positive outcomes. According to Hussain et al. (2018), the management must
consider several factors as they prepare the org...
