Performance-Based Logistics have been used by both private and public logistics agencies
to manage complex fleets. It is among the most effective approaches for reducing costs and
improving the performance of organizations. Performance-Based Logistics (PBL) depends on the
ability of the customers to structure and implement contract incentives to promote the behavior of
vendors that improve the performance and reduce cost while delivering the desired outcomes.
Contracting
PBL contracts are engagements that allow by organizations to get commercial support or
services for parts, systems, or platforms. The supports are measured to ensure that an organization
receives the best possible logistics for the money (Randall et al., 2011). It is specifically designed
to improve the support of logistics beyond what can be attained in the traditional support contract.
The flexibility is considered as a means to that end. The contract can be anything from stocking
one part where an organization is saved from the management, inventory, warehousing, and
shipping to offer complete support.
