Reverse logistics refers to the movement of goods from their destination intending to
ensure proper discarding and valuation apprehension. Revamping and remanufacturing activities
are also considered in reverse logistics. Primarily, logistics deal with events that are vital for
ensuring that the customer receives their goods in time. In the case of reverse logistics, goods
usually move from the customers to the manufacturer or the distributor. The concept is useful for
all operations relating to the reuse of materials and products. In other words, it is the process of
transporting goods from their journey's end to ensure proper disposal and increases their value
(Schönsleben, 2019).
The advancement of supply chain management, green concerns and other practices makes
the concept of reverse logistics widely relevant. Reverse logistics includes the sales of surplus
goods and management as well as machines and equipment. It is noteworthy that any
management or process after the product delivery encompasses the reverse logistics process. For
instance, if the customer can return the product if it is defective, and then the manufacturing
company has to organize the shipment of the defective product, dismantle, test, recycle, repair
and dispose of the product. The product has to be moved through the process of reverse logistics
to retain its usability. In today’s business world, many companies treat good returns as disjoined,
individual transactions. The requirements of customer help to facilitate demand for quality goods
that meets the timeliness and accuracy specifications. It is the responsibility of the company to
reduce the time of reselling and return origination. Owing to the connection between customer
retention and reverse logistics, reverse logistics is now a vital ingredient of Service Lifecycle
