The Human Story: Our Story from the Stone Age to Today
Chapter 1, 2, 3: we fill the earth, we gather by the rivers, and the wanderers settle down
Idea 1
We evolved in Africa; roamed on foot to Asia Europe and the Americas; and reached Australia
and the pacific islands in boats
From archeology and history, it is clear that humans evolved from Africa and spread to
other regions of the world. The reason for spreading was to explore new areas or in search of
food. It is also clear that the climatic differences between these regions caused humans to evolve
differently.
Idea 2
After the man had spread to the pacific islands, the world had been filled.
Humans moved from one continent to the next using boats and rafts. For example, according to
history, the movement of man was limited to walking. However, after the discovery of floats, he
was able to move from one continent to the next. History dictates that the pacific islands were the
last to be filled.
Idea 3
The scarcity of food in other regions like the middle east led to the domestication of animals and
crops. After moving from Africa, humans experienced food shortages since areas like the middle
east and Europe were dry. This scarcity prompted humans to domestic animals.
Idea 4
Domestication of animals and food came after humans had filled the earth, and there was
a need for a new lifestyle that did not require hunting and gathering. The humans were forced to
live near rivers as a source of food and water.

Idea 5
Population growth and domestication led created the need for a government.
