Are organic foods healthier than conventional foods?
There has been much craze in recent years on the need to eat a healthy, balanced diet.
This obsession with healthy food comes against the backdrop of an increase in lifestyle diseases,
and more so, cardiovascular diseases and various types of cancers, among other diseases.
Consequently, the thinking has been that because organic foods do not require any chemicals for
growth, it is hence immune from the effects of such chemicals on the human body. However,
evidence from various studies revealed that there is no significant difference, at least
nutritionally, between organic foods and conventional foods. The premise of this article,
therefore, is that the safety and health benefits associated with organic foods do not differ
significantly from those of conventional foods.
Organic food refers to food that is cultivated "without any synthetic fertilizers or
pesticides" (Paarlberg 615). The growing popularity of organic food is necessitated by the rapid
increase in the number of people suffering from various lifes...
