Significance of Fracking

Fracking is a major environmental issue affecting businesses today. Fracking implies the
mining method that uses hydraulic fracturing to extract oil and gas that began as early as the
1940’s. The manufacturing process was very cost effective but its effects on the environment
caused criticisms. Primarily, the increase in oil production and the pollution that results from
combustion of the fossil fuels. The concern has to do with whether or not fracking is economic
considering that it facilitated substantial business boom as a cheap method of oil extraction. The
main advantage of fracking to the economy has to do with the substantial decline in fuel prices
over the years. Fracking has therefore emerged as a controversial aspect of production where
finding the real cost and benefit balance is rather difficult. For instance you cannot quantify the
destruction of carbon monoxide and oxidant emissions on the ozone and air quality. On the other
hand, companies found great benefit in using a cost effective and mechanically advanced style of
As an innovation of drilling, hydraulic fracturing emerged as the most economical way of
extracting oil especially from underground shale. That, perhaps is one of the reasons why most
companies adopted the extraction method leading to substantial reduction in natural gas prices.
According to Dews, (2015), the 47% reduction in gas prices relative to what the prices would be
by 2013 in the natural gas revolution implies substantial economic gain for energy consumers.
There is thus no simple fact that regulating natural gas due to its environme...
