ACC 201 Southern New Hampshire University Role of Internal Controls Essay
Overview
Internal controls are methods and strategies used to keep information and inventory safe from theft and to easily tell if something is compromised or missing. In this assignment, you will recommend internal controls for safeguarding inventory from an accounting perspective and explain which financial statements are affected by missing inventory.
Scenario
One of your friends has opened a new wholesale electronics business and wants your help figuring out some inventory issues they are facing.
One night last week, there seemed to be fewer HD televisions in the warehouse than they expected. The last time they were in the warehouse was a week earlier, and they hadn’t noticed anything amiss.
As they looked around, they saw that the evening warehouse worker was filling the last orders of the day. The delivery driver and day warehouse worker were gone for the day, and the delivery van keys were on the desk that the warehouse workers shared. The doors to the loading dock were open, as was the door to the office area where the accountant, two customer service specialists, and the owner worked.
Knowing that you are familiar with accounting principles, they asked for your help in figuring out how to prevent this in the future.
Prompt
Based on what you have learned about internal controls, provide recommendations on what controls the business owner should put in place to prevent loss of inventory and ensure that any losses are reported immediately. Also, specify which parts of the financial statements are affected by these losses.
Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:
Role of Internal Controls
Explain the role of internal controls in business settings. Also explain how not having internal controls in place may impact the accurate analysis of any wrongdoing.
Recommendations
Recommend at least two internal controls that should be put in place to prevent inventory from going “missing,” noting any assumptions you are making about the root cause of the missing products and how your recommendations will help address them.
Recommend at least one control that should be put in place to alert the owner if something is actually missing.
Financial Statements
If you found that two $400 HD televisions were missing, explain which financial statements you would correct and how. Be specific as to accounts and amounts.

MAT 510 Strayer University The Mortgage Approval and Time Study Case study
Case Study: Mortgage Approval Time StudyRead the following case study:A major financial services company wishes to better understand its mortgage approval process. In particular, the company is interested in learning about the effects of good versus fair credit history, the size of the mortgage (less than $500,000 versus greater than $500,000), and the region of the United States (western versus eastern) on the time it takes to get a mortgage approved. The database of mortgages approved in the last year is accessed, and a random sample of five approved mortgages is chosen for each of the eight combinations of the three variables. The data are shown in the table.Mortgage Approval Time StudyCredit HistoryMortgage SizeRegionApproval Times (days)Approval Times (days)Approval Times (days)Approval Times (days)Approval Times (days)Good<$500,000Western5950646247Fair<$500,000Western8158696574Good>$500,000Western3852586065Fair>$500,000Western146159133143129Good<$500,000Eastern2826384121Fair<$500,000Eastern4253405064Good>$500,000Eastern4931494238Fair>$500,000Eastern106115126118138First, conduct an analysis using the following steps:Use the data shown in the table to conduct a design of experiment (DOE) in Microsoft Excel to determine the nature and magnitude of the effects of the three variables on mortgage approval times. Identify the key drivers of this process.Determine the graphical display tool (Interaction Effects Chart, Scatter Chart, et cetera) that you would use to present the results of the DOE you conducted in Question 1. Provide a rationale for your response.Assess the data sampling method:Determine if the sample size is sufficient.Identify circumstances under which would it have been appropriate to select a larger sample. Determine whether a sample of five mortgages is adequate to access the relative magnitudes of the effects of the variables.Recommend a sample size for future study and discuss what analysis can be made with a larger sample size. (Hint: Look back at Chapters 2, 3, 5, and 6 for discussion of sampling.)Provide other variable responses that might be of interest to measure and study. (Hint: If you were getting a mortgage or a loan, what are the two most important measures of the process you would have to go through?)Propose one overall recommendation to the financial services company based on the DOE that could help reduce mortgage approval times.

Portrayals of criminals in the news and in popular culture may influence the way that the public perceives certain types of criminals. The popularity of movies such as The Godfather and Scarface, and television shows such as Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy seems to suggest that viewers identify positively with certain criminal “heroes.”cite your sources in your work and provide references for the citations in APA format.
The lead characters in Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad, and The Sopranos were shown to be brutal killers, yet the stories were constructed around those characters. Why does this seem to be the case? What is the appeal of a criminal as a hero?
Do movies and television shows such as these glamorize crime? If so, are there specific crimes or behaviors that are more likely to be glamorized and some more likely to be demonized?
How can the predominant theories of criminology relate to this phenomenon?
If it can be established that these portrayals influence real-world criminal behavior, should there be legal restrictions on how criminals are portrayed in popular culture? Explain your reasoning.
