Lorenzo Ghiberti was commissioned to carve doors for the Florence Baptistery. The
doors were termed to be influential during the period of the Early Renaissance. Facts claim
Lorenzo won the competition for carving the first set of bronze doors in the 1401 competition.
To begin with, the designs were to represent the Old Testament, however, the plan was changed,
and they were required to use scenes from the New Testament. Lorenzo was able to complete 28
panels when he was asked to build another set of doors with the Old Testament embodied in the
doors. Lorenzo carved out ten rectangular scenes with distinct styles; they were later given the
title “The Gates of Paradise.”
Andrea Pisano carved the first set of doors in 1329. The panels consisted of 28 quatrefoil
