It’s still unclear what the cause of the Shamoon attack was, but some reports say that the
aim was to destroy the networked computers in this company. The attackers decided to use this
malware because of its effectiveness in spreading from one infected computer to another on the
same network. Arguably, it’s reported that the virus was used for cyber warfare against this oil
company (Mills, 2018). Besides, it is said that the disruption was argued to be as a result of a
virus that had infected an individual workstation without affecting other primary components
that are within the same network. Nevertheless, the reappearance of Shamoon is a crucial report
stated that the attack might have been planned to cause a handful of other high-profile attacks, as
far as the 2014 attacks on Sony Corp’s Hollywood studio and Las Vegas Sands Corp are
concerned.
