The case of Ortiz v United States was argued in January 2018, and the decision was made
June of the same year. The petitioner, who was Keanu Ortiz, a First Class Airman, received
conviction from a court-martial for being in possession and distributing child pornography (585
U. S., 2018). The court-martial gave the petitioner a two-year jail sentence coupled up with a
dishonorable discharge from the military. The Air Force Court of Criminal Appeal panel that
included Colonel Martin Mitchell affirmed the decision of the court. Afterward, the Air Force
Court of Criminal Appeal (CAAF) granted the petitioner a petition for review to determine whether
Judge Martin Mitchell was unfit and unqualified to serve on the Court of Criminal Appeal since
