How does knowing this history of suppression affect your reception of Rothko?
It changed my perception towards Rothko. At first I viewed him as a person who was unable to
withstand external forces and fight for his space. However, I realized that Rothko was a
hardworking person who always exerted extra effort in his work to ensure that he emerged
victorious. He used his painting skills to elevate his position from a low class citizen to one of
the prominent people to have ever lived during his time. He proved to the world that art work is a
good career that can be used to communicate message effectively to large number of audience. I
also learned that Rothko is a great planner who keeps an eye to the changes in politics and
economy.
