PART 1 REPORT
Our material for this report is straw, which is an agricultural product. It consists of
stalks of the cereal plants, after removal of grains and chaff. This material is half of the yield
of the agricultural plants in the field like rice, wheat, and barley. They are stored in form of
bales, which can be round or square, and their size will depend on the baler used. They have
divergent uses like animal feeds, making baskets, and fuel. However, in this category, we
will look into the straw as a construction material, due to its insulation properties. Bales are
used to insulating buildings, and the outer surface finished using earthen plaster. This
plastered wall does give thermal mass and resistance to fire. Besides, they are used as roofing
materials.
Straws are tabular stalks, and they have high tensile strength. We can’t say straw is
like hay given to animals and which break easily. Straw is made up of cellulose, lignin’s, and
