Based upon the self-evaluations, I now have an understanding of my own personal
leadership style. Below, each category is scored and discussed. Areas of consideration include
motivation to lead, self-monitoring, emotional intelligence, influence tactics, personal power
profile, and others. I found these assessments to be quite insightful, and I plan to put strategies in
place to both nurture the skills that I already possess, as well as build upon the areas that require
improvement.
Motivation to Lead
This evaluation focused on three aspects of leadership motivation: affective-identity, noncalculative, and social-normative. Affective-identity motivation stems from the actual enjoyment
of being in a leadership position. In this area, I scored a 6.6, indicating a strong desire to lead
based upon my perceived enjoyment. Non-calculative motivation refers to the degree at which
someone weighs the costs associated with being in a leadership position. Scoring highly in this
section would indicate that an individual does not adequately consider the burden of leadership.
For this section, I scored a 3. I believe this score signifies that I do, in fact, weigh the pros and
cons of leadership; however, I do not place too much weight on the potentially negative aspects.
Lastly, the social-normative score indicates my motivation to lead based upon a feeling of
obligation. In this section I scored a 5.7 indicating that I do feel a desire to lead based upon
perceived social pressure and/or need.
Self-Monitoring
Self-monitoring is a concept introduced in 1974 by Mark Snyder. This assessment shows
