Recently, family planning has also included men. Family planning services enable wannabe
parents to decide, in advance, and plan for the children they want to have. According to the UN’s
Department of Economic and Social Affairs, over 60% of women in need of family planning
services used it in 2017 worldwide. In developing countries, however, the use of these services
was significantly low. In Central and West Africa, for instance, as many as 1 in 5 women did not
satisfy their need for family planning. In 2017, over 75% of women in several African countries
needed family planning services but they did not seek or receive it.
In the wake of the fast-growing global population, family planning has become even
more critical. Medical developments have increased life expectancy, and many people are living
well into their 80s and 90s. While these developments are something the human race should be
proud of, they have contributed to a population explosion in some countries. Recently in China,
