Running Head: BOOK ANALYSIS
The Elegant Universe
About the Author
The Elegant Universe: Superstrings, Hidden Dimensions, and the Quest for the Ultimate
Theory is a non-technical book Brian Randolph Greene (2010) that explains string and
superstring theory while offering a comprehensive assessment of the topic as well as challenging
areas of the same. The author, Brian Randolph Greene, is a mathematician, string theorists, and
theoretical physicist. Born and residing in the United States, Greene is a professor at Columbia
University, a position he has held since 1996 (Venables, 2013). He has described flop transition
and worked on mirror symmetry. Greene also co-founded the World Science Festival, a
foundation whose mission is to grow a general public informed by science and has been the
Chairman since. Equally, Greene has authored numerous other books for the general public
breaking down complex physics topics and formulas into a language easily understood by most.
His rich background in the field of theoretical physics, cosmology, and strung theory gave him
the power to write The Elegant Universe that was intended for the general Public
Explanation of Thesis
Greene's reason for writing the book is an attempt to unify two of Albert Einstein's theory
of General relativity and Quantum Mechanics. According to him, these two theories, although
