Based on information from the video, Mahaley’s Childhood Web, and the “Mahaley Mahe: New Student Overview” document, write a 3- to 5-page response that addresses the following:
- Describe Mahaley’s microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem, and chronosystem. Explain how at least three of these systems influence Mahaley’s healthy development and learning.
- Choose at least one concept from family systems theory, and explain how Mahaley’s story relates to that concept. Then, explain why understanding the concepts of the family systems theory can help support positive outcomes for Mahaley and her family.
- Using the ideas from the family systems theory and ecological systems theory, explain how the changes described in the “Mahaley Mahe: New Student Overview” document might impact Mahaley’s healthy development and learning.
- Explain the importance of respecting Mahaley’s family culture in this new environment in order to support her healthy development and learning.

The ecological systems theory was formulated to explain the inherent qualities of
children. It also serves to explain how these qualities influence how they develop and grow. The
essence of ecological systems is the importance of studying children in different environments to
understand their development and growth. According to this theory, children develop in diverse
ecosystems from the most intimate home ecological system to the more extensive school system.
The most comprehensive system which encompasses society and culture is also an essential
factor to be considered. All these ecological systems interact with each other and influence the
development of a child.
The microsystem is the smallest and most immediate environment that impacts a child's
development. The daily home, school, peer group and daycare is part of this ecosystem. Personal
relationships are the main component of the microsystem. It is essential for parents and people
involved to practice more nurturing and supportive interactions with their children at this stage.
This is because it affects how these children develop and grow. If a child is brought up in a
microsystem where violence is a common occurrence, then the child will most likely become
violent. One crucial factor to consider is that children brought up in the same microsystem can
exhibit very different characteristics. This is because so many other factors, such as genetics are
