In general, "media" refers to the instruments of mass communication. It includes both
broadcasting and narrowcasting mediums such as radios, internet, newspapers and magazines.
The primary role of media is to gather and report news that is true, fair, honest and non-biased.
The news keeps us informed about what is going on in and around the globe. In modern society,
the role of media has expanded, and it now emerges as a watchdog, holding institutions,
governments and leaders accountable when they misbehave or attempt to deceive the public. In
its role as a watch, dog media has been essential in promoting democracy, ethical leadership and
governance by exposing wrongdoings by the political elites, governments, small and enormous
organizations.
The current society continues to witness pervasive corruption, human rights violations
and the weak rule of law. In several countries, the electoral malpractices and the diehard
authoritarian behaviors among the political elites have significantly undermined the instituti...
