The United States of America Department of Homeland Security created the National
Infrastructure Protection Plan (NIPP) with the intent of managing risks, promoting resilience,
and enhancing security in critical infrastructures in different sectors of the economy. The current
plan in use was drafted in 2013 (Alcaraz & Zeadally, 2015). It captures how both government
and private sector agents can cooperate to manage risks. The resilience and security of critical
infrastructure plays a significant role in shaping the well-being of a nation. All services ranging
from drinking water, financial structures, transportation, and energy are vital in the advancement
of society and should be protected. Thus, some of the functions of the National Infrastructure
Protection Plan and Critical Infrastructure Security include the following; first, it promotes
sensitization and adaptation of various approaches before, during, and after incidents. Second, it
plays a significant role in decreasing vulnerabilities of critical systems, networks, and properties.
Third, it advances the examination of critical infrastructure to explore risk management activities
