Introduction
Using corporate culture can enable organizations to differentiate themselves and
established a workplace that is conducive for the stakeholders, especially the company's
employees. One of the companies that have done an exemplary job in creating a unique working
environment is Zappos. This paper sets out to answer five questions based on Case 8: Zappos:
Stepping Forward in Stakeholder Satisfaction.
A culture of ethicalness
Zappos's leadership, led by CEO Tony Hsieh, has set out to foster a culture of
ethicalness that provides the company with a competitive advantage over other companies
(Ferrell, Fraedrich, & Ferrell, Business Ethics: Ethical Decision Making & Ethics, 2016). The
company’s leadership has fostered a culture that makes customers, employees, and vendors
happy. The company values happiness whether customers get it when they buy new pairs of
shoes or happiness they get when they deal with excellent customer support, or even the joy felt
by the employees when the company values their individuality. The company has also created a
culture employee’s empowerment and decentralized decision making whereby employees, just
like the leaders in the organization, have a say in the company matters. Indeed, Tony Hsieh has
built the culture on the idea that brand power and excellent service accrues from having talented
people and employees who enjoy their work. This corporate culture is built on an ethical
foundation that respects all the stakeholders (Ferrell, Fraedrich, & Ferrell, Business Ethics:
Ethical Decision Making & Ethics, 2016).
Other companies can mimic Zappos’s actions by understanding employees and their
needs. Zappos is one of the companies that has heavily invested in valuing its employees. The
company values the employees' contribution and individuality. Perhaps, other companies could
