First Part: Codes of Cultural Behaviors
Tourists have the mandate to adhere to cultural norms and behaviors when visiting other
nations. Nations have different sets of codes of cultural behaviors that distinguish them from
others. For instance, religions have a broad impact on cultural behaviors and expect tourists to
respect cultural norms. The United Arab Emirates is an Islamic region and has strict cultural
norms.
Do’s
➢ Tourists are asked to dress conservatively, which reflects the need to show modesty and
resilience. The dress code says a lot about the Islamic nations, whereby the visitors are
requested to show respect to most of the places they visit in UAE. For instance, when
visiting mosques and sacred sites, men should wear loose and white clothes that should
not expose shoulders and chests (Kim, Pearce, & Choi-Kwon, 2015). Women should also
wear clothes that do not expose most parts of their bodies and should as well cover their
hair. The aspect of dressing conservatively is aimed at promoting equality, respect to
religion, and portray comfort.
➢ Tourists should as well respect Islamic traditions. UAE is a Muslim nation and protects
its traditions, which are heavily vested in religion. Some of the traditions include
Ramadan and Haji (Kim, Pearce, & Choi-Kwon, 2015). The visitors during these
traditional festive should adhere to the cultural norms of the residents. For instance,
Ramadan is an indoor and festive period, thereby seeking visitors to do the same and
enjoy the meals offered by the hosts.
