Describe the major effects of sleep deprivation in humans. Share an example of a time when this has happened to you. In your writing, describe why deficits in vigilance and motivation lead to cognitive deficits? Give an example as part of your discussion answer.
If you were a sleep researcher studying sleep in various organisms, how would you define sleep? As part of your definition, identify the four conclusions that have resulted from the comparative analysis of sleep.

In your reaction, answer the following:
What are your thoughts on what Johann said in this TED Talk? Do you agree? Disagree? Explain your reasons.
While your textbook focuses on addictions to substances, consider all addictive behaviors. What do you think the withdrawal reaction might be when one suddenly stops taking an antidepressant medication or engaging in an addictive behavior after many years. Explain your decision and include your explanation of what it means to be physically dependent on a drug (as part of this, you should describe the withdrawal process). To illustrate your writing, provide an example from your experiences.
In his presentation, Johann mentions policies surrounding drugs. If you could change those policies related to how we treat drug-addicted individuals, what would be the first thing you would change? In your answer, be sure to describe methods for measuring the rewarding effects of drugs and why the information you're sharing is important for your policy recommendations.

unpleasant ways. Though the lack of enough sleep did not affect my studies, it led to other
problems. I could experience fatigue, moodiness, irritability and at times, I would feel
depressed. According to medics, the experiences I had show that I was struggling with sleep
deprivation problems. If such problems persist, the resulting effects can be life-threatening
since sleep deprivation can adversely affect a variety of systems in our bodies.
