How To Tell Clinical Depression In The Elderly
For elderly people, depression or sadness may come as a result of loss or general changes
that touch their life. Sometimes the loss might be of a loved one, a job or a fortune. These
changes are bound to occur and coping up with the changes might lead to sadness or clinical
depression. A good example is when an elderly person loses a spouse and the only caregiver they
had and has to move into an elderly people’s home.
The change would manifest in the form of observable symptoms. The symptoms tend to
be slightly different from how depression manifests in young people. The symptoms range from
physical, health and psychological. Physical signs include sleeping more than normal, a lot of
despair going into days at a time, increased memory loss, increased bodily pains, sometimes
there is a change in weight (loss or gain), and indigestion in some instances. These physical signs
may vary from one patient to another and they should be given attention. Psychological
symptoms are also other indicators of depression in this age group. Some include constant
