Introduction

The topic of the iconic figures that have ever graced the world can never be complete
without the mention of Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan was born in 1911 on February 6th and rose
to prominence as an icon when he became a Hollywood actor and a leader of the trade union. Later
on, he became the California Governor between 1967 and 1975. Ronald Reagan came from a lowincome family who lived in northern Illinois. He studied at Eureka College, graduating in 1932,
later on, he worked as a sports announcer in some of the radio stations (Pemberton, 2015). He was
a Democrat until 1962, where he switched to conservative and then on to the Republican Party.
Having built a network of supporters, Reagan ran twice for the Republican Presidential nomination
without winning in the primaries. Reagan won the presidential nominations in 1980 and went
ahead to defeat Jimmy Carter, the Democrat in the following presidential elections. He was the
oldest President in the history of president-elect with the age of 69 years. The President lived in
the White House for the two terms with George H. W Bush as Vice President for the two terms.
Bush would later succeed Reagan as the 41st President of America. During the 1980 Presidential
election, Reagan's opponent was Jimmy Carter, while in 1984, his opponent was the former Vice
President in Carter's administration Walter Mondale.
